A design note on how AutoStory's shared start/end selection could model postgame and DLC, recorded while upstream PokemonAutomation#1828 adds story_index() for SV's two sections.

  • SV AutoStory ends with the main story; its tutorial and main story are two consecutive sections of one list, which story_index() models.
  • A postgame that carries straight on (FRLG's Sevii 4-7, SV's) fits as more entries or a third section; a DLC that branches off the main story (SV's Teal Mask, Indigo Disk) does not.
  • Sketch: per-game tracks as data, each linear with an optional starts_after, checkpoints identified by track and entry id rather than one global index, since SV saves the dropdown index in user settings.
  • Not to be built until a game needs a third section; AutoStory: shared start/end select database and story index PokemonAutomation/Arduino-Source#1828's story_index() has a NOTE stating the assumption.

Testing

  • Documentation only.

How the shared start/end selection could grow past SV's two sections:
which cases append (postgame) and which branch (DLC), a track sketch, and
why checkpoint ids beat one global index for saved settings.
