Summary

This PR implements the API, CLI, product-behavior, and Session Sharing portion of the approved Falconer remediation spec. It restores canonical terminal Session Sharing, aligns current API examples with the plural run endpoint, documents released attachment and profile behavior, and keeps oz as a quiet compatibility surface.

Changes

  • Document the five-image-per-prompt limit across cloud, local, and Warp Agent CLI guidance.
  • Use canonical POST /agent/runs in every current API example and retain the already-correct name filter explanation.
  • Remove the expired September 2026 oz deadline and keep one quiet compatibility note on the legacy CLI landing page.
  • Align the default legacy profile with released MCP loading, Agent decides command execution, and denylist precedence.
  • Restore the generic terminal Session Sharing page with all source options, access levels, pricing link, seven-day expiration, Secret Redaction warning, and stop-sharing action.
  • Reduce Agent Session Sharing to the agent-specific visibility and steering extension, while preserving compatibility anchors.
  • Align the recurring consistency audit with the restored generic Session Sharing topology and route generic inbound links to the canonical page.

Finding dispositions

  • Falconer 9: Added the released five-image limit to cloud, local, and CLI prompt guidance.
  • Falconer 10: Replaced the remaining current POST /agent/run examples with canonical POST /agent/runs. The deprecated OpenAPI compatibility path remains unchanged.
  • Falconer 11: The current API reference already uses the name query parameter for GET /agent/runs; this branch preserves it.
  • Falconer 13: The platform-specific shell list already excludes fish on Windows, so this branch leaves that page unchanged.
  • Falconer 14: The resolved Ventura updater warning is absent from current troubleshooting guidance; no change is required here.
  • Falconer 16: The Warp Agent CLI quickstart already distinguishes install-script self-updates from Homebrew-managed updates, so this branch preserves that explanation.
  • Falconer 18: Corrected default legacy Agent Profile and MCP startup behavior.
  • Falconer 19: Current legacy SSH guidance already limits the enhanced bootstrap to bash and zsh; the canonical explanation remains unchanged.
  • Falconer 20: Removed the expired support deadline and replaced repeated deprecation banners with one quiet compatibility note.
  • Falconer 23: Restored generic terminal Session Sharing as the canonical page and made Agent Session Sharing an extension.

Source verification

  • Docs and OpenAPI base: warpdotdev/docs@a2cd6480b3edc79919f67aadce5d61fbe1f1fdf9 (developers/agent-api-openapi.yaml).
  • Client authority: warpdotdev/warp@0e3101e1e6dfca292de9356e7b904beb7a2258c0.
  • Exact client authority paths are recorded in the Documentation risk block below.

Required review

  • API: canonical endpoint and filter wording.
  • CLI: updater, default profile, MCP startup, and legacy oz compatibility.
  • Client or Collaboration: shell, SSH, and Session Sharing behavior.
  • Docs: information architecture, terminology, and cross-references.

Ownership resolution returned several engineers and the warpdotdev/oss-maintainers team. Repository policy requires one clear human owner, so this draft opens without a requested GitHub reviewer.

Content design plan

Audience and JTBD: Developers using Warp's API or CLIs, and teammates who need to share terminal or agent sessions with the correct controls.

Problem: Current pages mix expired migration guidance, stale API examples, incomplete limits, and an agent-only Session Sharing page that displaced the generic terminal workflow.

Goals:

  • Readers can use current API examples and understand released attachment and profile defaults.
  • Existing oz users retain compatibility guidance without an expired deadline.
  • Readers can share terminal sessions and distinguish generic sharing from agent-specific steering.

Purpose and value: The corrections remove contradictory current-behavior claims and restore the canonical workflow that existing cross-references expect.

Content types: Reference corrections, FAQ correction, troubleshooting cleanup, and combined feature documentation for Session Sharing.

High-impact scenarios: Covers current run creation, prompt attachments, legacy CLI compatibility, default profile behavior, terminal sharing, and agent steering. Excludes product behavior changes and removal of deprecated compatibility paths.

Unverified claims

None — endpoint, attachment, profile, CLI updater, shell, SSH, and Session Sharing claims were verified against the OpenAPI and client source revisions listed above.

Documentation risk

Risk: engineering-review-required
Rationale: Changes API examples, CLI defaults and compatibility guidance, and user-visible Session Sharing behavior.
Source files consulted: a2cd648 (developers/agent-api-openapi.yaml); warpdotdev/warp@0e3101e (app/src/terminal/shared_session/share_modal/body.rs, crates/cloud_object_models/src/ai_execution_profile.rs, and app/src/terminal/warpify/settings.rs)

  • git diff --check origin/main...HEAD, the consistency audit, and targeted assertions for stale CLI deadlines, API paths and filters, image limits, profile defaults, and Session Sharing requirements — passed.
  • Synthetic combined merges with PR docs: align billing and entitlement claims #833 in both parent orders were conflict-free. Each combined tree passed all 30 audit tests, the consistency audit, git diff --check, and targeted assertions for the resolved concurrency and canonical Session Sharing rules.
  • Added source comments: none.
  • Exact-head Vercel preview: Session Sharing and legacy CLI landing page. Both routes returned the expected rendered content.
  • Visual verification passed on the revised exact-head preview at 1440×900 and 390×844: Session Sharing rendered without clipping or horizontal overflow at both widths, and the legacy CLI page rendered its compatibility note cleanly at desktop width.

Review summary

The independent agent completed its review for this commit.

Findings

  • src/content/docs/agents/cli/input-and-shell-commands.mdx:74 — [IMPORTANT] The five-image limit for local, cloud, and CLI prompts is not supported by the cited Source files consulted. The only limit in the cited OpenAPI spec is "max 5" for API file attachments, and reference/cli/index.mdx says --attach accepts up to 25 files. The ## Unverified claims section says None. Requested change: cite the client source that enforces the image limit, or list the claim under ## Unverified claims with a VERIFY marker, and reconcile it with the 25-file --attach limit. Apply the same fix to agent-context/images-as-context.mdx:21 and platform/faqs.mdx:248.
  • src/content/docs/agents/local-agents/session-sharing.mdx:26 — [IMPORTANT] "Warp includes its history and uses Share from start of session" is a new behavior claim with no cited source, and it conflicts with the linked steps that tell the reader to choose where shared history starts. Requested change: verify against the client source (for example share_modal/body.rs) and cite it, or replace it with guidance that matches the canonical steps.
  • src/content/docs/agents/local-agents/session-sharing.mdx:39 — [IMPORTANT] The rewrite removed privacy and access facts (viewers must sign in, admins can disable invites and link sharing, shared sessions are excluded from AI indexing, no per-session delete before expiry, the account-deletion path) without relocating them to the canonical page, and privacy.mdx:21 still links to the #data-retention-and-access anchor, which is now a stub. Requested change: restore each fact on knowledge-and-collaboration/session-sharing/index.mdx or confirm it is no longer true and say so in the PR body, then retarget the privacy.mdx link.
  • src/content/docs/agents/local-agents/session-sharing.mdx:39 — [SUGGESTION] Three headings each hold one sentence of pointer text, the link text seven-day expiration, and how to stop sharing swallows a clause, and plan limits points to a section that only says limits vary by plan. Requested change: fold them into one short section and use link text that names each destination.
  • src/content/docs/agents/local-agents/session-sharing.mdx:23 — [SUGGESTION] The change leaves src/assets/agent-platform/agent-session-sharing-right-click-menu.png and agent-session-sharing-command-palette.png unreferenced. Requested change: delete the files or reuse them in the share steps on the canonical Session Sharing page.
  • src/content/docs/reference/cli/agent-profiles.mdx:23 — [SUGGESTION] Replacing the two callouts dropped that the CLI fails on prohibited actions and that the default profile can read and write files and apply diffs. Requested change: keep one sentence for each and confirm them against ai_execution_profile.rs.
  • src/content/docs/reference/cli/quickstart.mdx:54 — [SUGGESTION] "Available MCP servers load by default" is broader than reference/cli/mcp-servers.mdx:13, which says file-based and global servers follow their own discovery path. Requested change: reword to "The default profile loads available MCP servers."
  • src/content/docs/knowledge-and-collaboration/session-sharing/index.mdx:30 — [NIT] "The shared terminal opens for everyone with the access you granted." restates the previous step. Requested change: delete the sentence.

Overview

This PR updates API endpoint examples, legacy CLI guidance, image attachment limits, and restores generic Session Sharing as the canonical collaboration page. Most link and information-architecture changes are scoped to the attached diff, but the revised legacy CLI defaults now contradict the referenced source behavior.

Concerns

  • The changed CLI docs say the legacy command-line default profile uses Agent decides, but AIExecutionProfile::create_default_cli_profile still sets command execution to AlwaysAllow with denylist precedence, which is a materially different and security-sensitive default.
  • The MCP startup wording now says available MCP servers load by default, which overstates the startup paths shown in the source: explicit --mcp specs, profile allowlists, and eligible file-based/global autostarts are distinct.

Security

  • The command-execution default is security-sensitive because readers may rely on an Agent-decides risk gate that the legacy CLI default does not use.

Verdict

Found: 2 critical, 1 important, 0 suggestions

:::caution
The default profile for CLI usage is broadly permissive and gives the agent the ability to read and write files, apply code diffs, execute commands with a default denylist, and use MCP actions. Its profile MCP allowlist starts empty. Select run-scoped servers with `--mcp`, use a profile that allowlists installed servers, or configure an eligible file-based or global server. See [MCP servers](/reference/cli/mcp-servers/) for details.
:::
For CLI usage, create a dedicated profile that permits the directories, commands, and MCP servers required by the workflow. The default profile loads available MCP servers. Command execution uses **Agent decides**, and its denylist still blocks matching commands. Add run-scoped servers with `--mcp`, or select another profile to use its MCP permissions. See [MCP servers](/reference/cli/mcp-servers/) for details.

🚨 [CRITICAL] [SECURITY] This overstates the legacy CLI defaults: AIExecutionProfile::create_default_cli_profile sets command execution to AlwaysAllow, with the denylist applied first, not Agent decides. Update the default-profile description so users do not rely on a risk-based approval mode that this CLI path does not use.

```
This uses the default agent profile and executes the run locally. The default profile permits MCP actions but does not automatically start every configured server. Select run-scoped servers with `--mcp`, or use a profile that allowlists installed servers. See [MCP servers](/reference/cli/mcp-servers/) for the available startup paths.
🚨 [CRITICAL] [SECURITY] This repeats the incorrect Agent decides claim for oz agent run; the command-line default profile is AlwaysAllow with denylist precedence, not Agent decides. Align the quickstart with the actual legacy CLI default before publishing.
MCP servers connect agents to external systems like GitHub, Linear, or Sentry. To use a [Model Context Protocol (MCP)](/agents/capabilities/mcp/) server from the CLI, use the `--mcp` flag with `oz agent run` or `oz agent run-cloud`.
The CLI does not start every configured MCP server for every run. Explicit `--mcp` values start run-scoped servers. A selected agent profile can start installed servers on its MCP allowlist, while eligible file-based and global servers follow their own discovery path.
The default agent profile loads available MCP servers. Explicit `--mcp` values add run-scoped servers. A different selected profile applies its MCP permissions, while eligible file-based and global servers follow their own discovery path.
⚠️ [IMPORTANT] The default profile does not simply load every available MCP server: startup still depends on explicit --mcp specs, profile-allowlisted servers, and eligible file-based/global autostarts, while project-scoped servers are not auto-started. Narrow this claim so readers know when they still need --mcp or a profile allowlist.
